Are you fed up with SPAM?
Hi. This is Craig Sharp, and you're listening to another short podcast from Abussi, with more news and topical information about IT.
We're looking this month at SPAM, and the problems of junk email. Many of the businesses we talk to are really fed up with the way that SPAM can clog up and in some cases damage their systems. SPAM now accounts for up to eighty percent of email traffic, with spammers constantly hunting for new domain names to add to their list. Worse still, SPAM is now a major carrier of spyware that can infect your network and propagate itself. So it's a growing problem, and it's likely to get worse.
But of course there are plenty of other threats to your system from viruses and malicious activities - and they're getting more sophisticated all the time. Take damaging viruses, for example, that may appear to be benign, are not detected, and then spread themselves around the computers in your network. And the simple fact is that standard mechanisms for preventing these threats just aren't good enough any more.
Think about your home for a moment, and the measures you take to protect it. Simply having locks on your doors and windows is sadly no longer enough to deal with the security risks that are around. You have to find more sophisticated answers.
So in the same way that you extend your home security to give yourself extra protection and peace of mind, it pays to do the same for your business.
One simple solution that's proving popular with many of our clients is what we call a gateway device. For a small investment of around fifty pounds per user, you can now get a single security box that sits at the entrance to your network, and gives it full protection. As well as dramatically reducing and in some cases eliminating SPAM, it detects and gets rid of viruses before they can get anywhere near your system.
A gateway device like this monitors all your incoming and outgoing traffic. This means it can spot anything unusual, and alert you to potential problems. And it can fully report your Internet and email activity, as often as you want, to give you the management control that you need.
So a practical, affordable device like this can deal with multiple problems at the same time and give you tremendous benefits - protection, security, and peace of mind.
Of course it's only one small part of the IT service that Abussi offers. But once you've trusted us with the responsibility of looking after your system, you can concentrate on what you do best - and leave the IT to us.
I hope you've found this podcast interesting and useful. You can find out more at our website - abussi.co.uk.
Meanwhile, enjoy your IT - and I look forward to talking to you again next month. Thanks for listening.
